Success Stories

Widener SBDC Clients Finding Success

Algebra By Hand, LLC

While volunteering as a math tutor for high school students through the A Better Chance program (http://www.abetterchance.org/), he noticed that he could perform algebra much more quickly than his students. He set out to identify the mental processes he was undertaking to solve algebraic problems so he could better guide his students in their learning and development. The resulting solution took the form of a web based drag and drop tool and Mike’s new business venture, Algebra By Hand, LLC, was born.

Autocare Mobile Services

The idea of Autocare Mobile Services was birthed when he went in to get an oil change at his regular shop only to realize that the company had relocated. He tried another place close by and was told he was going to be scheduled to come back later, after an hour or two. He ended up doing it himself within 30 minutes and thought others who find themselves in this situation might also need this kind of service at their doorstep. After deliberations with his wife, his final decision to provide basic maintenance services to automobile users was a natural choice given his considerable experience in automotive maintenance and field/onsite repairs in the military.

Ortho Pedal, LLC

What successful small business owners have in common is an intense passion for their product and service, and Bill Moseley is a strong believer in his product. Bill has a passion for cycling, but he could not ride today without the creation of the Ortho Pedal.

Judy's Homemade Ice Cream

Inner Drive

Jennifer Ashbrook started planning to open her own small business. She was drawn by a passion for fitness and a desire to offer some unique fitness programming. Finally, in the spring of 2013, all the years of hard work paid off and Jennifer opened up her own cycling and fitness studio called Inner Drive in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Yet, the road to owning a small business is never easy and Jennifer faced some challenges along the way.
