The Widener Small Business Development Center
 

The Widener University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides one-on-one consulting services and a series of educational programs and seminars to new and existing businesses in southeastern Pennsylvania.  Our center was honored to be the recipient of the U.S. Small Business Administration's 2013 and 2019 SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award.

 

Widener SBDC is a member of the Pennsylvania network of Small Business Development Centers (PASBDC) and the national Association of Small Business Development Centers  (ASBDC).  The Pennsylvania SBDC network services have helped small firms throughout the Commonwealth raise start-up and expansion capital, start new companies, and sell billions worth of Pennsylvania products and services throughout the world.  As a result, SBDC clients have created thousands of new jobs and generated millions in new state income tax revenue.

Lenin Agudo - Director

As Director of Widener University SBDC, Lenin leads three major economic development programs in the eastern Pennsylvania region: the Procurement Technical Assistance Program, funded by the United States Defense Logistics Agency; the Small Business Environmental Management Assistance Program, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Small Business Development Center program, funded by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA).

 

On a daily basis, Lenin assists businesses start, grow and prosper through business consulting, cost control, profit maximization, education, research, market intelligence, government procurement and international trade consulting.

 

Early in 2019, our center was designated as a Next-Gen Lab for Design Thinking and Analytics by SAP. We became the first SBDC in the country to achieve this designation. Recently, the United States SBA presented us with the 2019 Innovation and Excellence Award for exceeding our goals and in recognition of our practices.

Peter Hornberger - Assistant Director

As the Assistant Director of the SBDC, Peter is engaged in managing the online content of the center, developing and delivering workshops for entrepreneurs, actively counseling clients, and managing center operations.  

Peter is a highly experienced consultant and educator who supports clients in the development of business models, marketing plans, website development plans, and social media schedules.

 

Peter holds a certificate as a facilitator of Business Model Canvas and Value Proposition Design from the International Business Innovation Association, is a Wix (website design platform) Certified Trainer, and is Google AdWords Search Certified.

Bruce Downing - Government Marketing Specialist

Bruce is currently a Business Consultant and Government Marketing Specialist at the Widener Small Business Development Center and Procurement Technical Assistance Center (SBDC/PTAC). 

 

Bruce has over 30 years experience in business and education.  He has served as an executive in a number of Information Technology companies including Commodore Computers, Intelligent Electronics and Scangraphics. He has started four businesses in the IT services sector obtaining government contracts for document conversion and Internet distribution of technical documents in support of government procurement activities.

Kevin Tacchino - Business Consultant and Government Marketing Specialist

Kevin is a Business Consultant and Government Marketing Specialist at the Widener Small Business Development Center and Procurement Technical Assistance Center (SBDC/PTAC). Previously, he worked for the treasury department of a large global retailer. He works with both start-up and mature businesses to prepare them for government contracting as well as helping them develop a comprehensive government marketing plan. He is a 2018 graduate from Widener University’s Masters of Taxation and Financial Planning program as well as a 2017 graduate of Elizabethtown College where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a double concentration in Finance and Economics.

Chris started working with the SBDC in August of 2019. A four year student-athlete in college, Chris majored in accounting and earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Widener University. He has previous experience working in Big 4 accounting firms, working in event management, working in small businesses, and in corporate accounting and strategy as well. Currently, Chris is pursuing his MBA with a concentration in data analytics from Widener University while also studying to pass the CPA exam.

Liliana Quintero - Graduate Assistant

Liliana holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance and International Relations, Master’s degree in Project Management, and is certified as a Project Management Professional by the Project Management Institute.

With 15 years of experience in Project Management and Small Business Development; Liliana applies her expert knowledge and relentless energy to help entrepreneurs and small business owners achieve their goals and grow their business. As a Latina entrepreneur, Liliana applies her skills as a bilingual consultant to especially help the Latino population.

Currently, Liliana is pursuing her MBA in Business Process Improvement at Widener University and she is very excited to be working with the Widener SDBC. Previously, Liliana worked with the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and as a Project manager in large companies in Bogota, Colombia.

Mary McCarty - Graduate Assistant

Mary is a recent graduate of Widener University, earning her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration, majoring in accounting.  She has previous experience working in small businesses and large corporations where she focused on tax and audit. Currently, she is enrolled in the Masters of Taxation and Financial planning program here and currently studying for the CPA exam.
