The following educational programs are available through a collaborative partnership
of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, the Chester Microenterprise Center,
the Delco chapter of SCORE and the Widener Small Business Development Center:
These workshops assist entrepreneurs in starting down the path to
successful business ownership; evaluating business ideas, developing a
business plan, selecting a legal structure, registering a company and
exploring financing options. Attendance at a First Step Seminar is a
prerequiste for SBDC clients who are starting up a new enterprise.

Seminars cost $25 and are held monthly.
These three seminars take a "deeper dive" into the fundamentals of
key areas of the business plan. The Marketing seminar provides a
hands-on workshop in market research and the development of a
marketing strategy. The Financial seminar focuses on
understanding, developing and using financial statements to guide
your business. The Implementation/Operation seminar includes the
development of tactical plans and controls to guide the
implementation of your strategies and covers key areas such as
operations, facilities, human resources, legal structure, regulatory
issues, risk assessment and project management.
This four part workshop helps entrepreneurs gain the skills
needed to develop a business plan. Business Planning I
focuses on business concepts & data collection. Business
Planning II - addresses marketing, pricing and strategies
to reach customers. Business Planning III provides a
financial template for your business idea. Business
Planning IV is taught by a bank loan officer and covers
various sources of financing.

Series Fee: $110 for all 4 sessions or $30 per session.
Chamber of Commerce Members: $75 for all 4 sessions or
$20 per session.
Comprehensive training is provided by the Chester Microenterprise Center in
a broad array of essential business skills including Technical/Computer
Tools, Legal, Accounting and Graphic Design.
This two and a half hour seminar focuses
on helping businesses gain information and
access to government procurement
procedures and opportunities.

The course also includes information on
gaining federal Women-owned Business
Enterprise (WBE) and Minority-owned
Business Enterprise (MBE) and similar
certifications from the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.

This seminar is offerred free of charge.
What is a podcast? Show off your retail location, put
on a seminar, share opinions, produce an infomercial,
present your podcasts as web blasts.
A practical introduction to the popular
Quick Books software. This is a
"hands-on" course that will teach the
basic business transactions in Quick
Books.

At the end of the two session series you
should be proficient in the basic functions
and reporting features of Quick Books.

account, listing items, digital photos and PayPal. An easy
way to get started.

Cost is $80 for the two sessions.

powerful workshop from FranklinCovey. The 7 Habits for Small Business
Managers workshop is an intensive application-oriented learning experience
focused on the fundamentals and tools of great leadership.

Widener SBDC is proud to partner with FranklinCovey to deliver this
workshop as a part of its commitment to helping business start, grow and
prosper.

Based on the highly acclaimed The
"7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by
Stephen R. Covey, Widener SBDC is able to offer the 2-day workshop to
small businesses at 1/2 of the normal fee. Workshops can be scheduled for
a single business or in multi-business sessions.

The workshop has been approved to offer continuing education credit (CEU's
and CPE's) for a number of professional organizations including the
International Association for Continuing Education and Training, the National
Association of State Boards of Accountancy, the Project Management
